Emmanuel Bonne, foreign affairs adviser to the French President Emmanuel Macron, has reiterated France's commitment to the one-China policy in a telephone conversation with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi. 

In a statement reported by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bonne said that the French side will never change its position of respecting China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and hopes to continue to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait through dialogue and consultation.

During their telephone conversation on Friday August 19, Wang Yi noted that during the current international situation, Sino-French relations have continued to make progress in a stable manner. 

Facing the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France in 2024 and the holding of the Paris Olympic Games, Wang said that the two countries should cooperate in the field of people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to give full play to the due roles of the two cultural powers.  

Wang expounded China's solemn position on the Taiwan issue and appreciated the French side's consistent adherence to the one-China policy. On issues concerning the principles of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said, there is no room for any country to back down. It is natural for China to take actions to defend its legitimate rights and prevent a greater crisis.

Bonne said that the French side agrees to maintain the basic norms of international relations and regional security, peace and stability. Like the Chinese side, the French side rejects the Cold War mentality and opposes group confrontation. It hopes to join hands with the Chinese side to deal with the current international and regional crises and convey a positive message of solidarity to the world.
