Updated 2022.06.26 22:26 GMT+8
The Agenda

For most tech giants, China is the holy grail – a market of more than a billion potential customers. But things are very different in the world of subscription video on demand.

Most of the streaming platforms that would describe themselves as global have little to no presence there. Will that ever change? And what does the future of the Chinese streaming market really look like? To find out, Juliet Mann speaks to Teng Jimeng, media consultant and Professor of Chinese film for the CET Program at Capital Normal University in Beijing.

MEET THE EXPERT:

Teng is currently the Professor of Chinese film for the CET Program at Capital Normal University in Beijing. As a media consultant, he's also a regular contributor to Ying Bao (a monthly film journal owned by the China National Film Museum) and Global Times.

For much of the 1990s, he worked as a consultant for a number of high-profile Chinese filmmakers, including Palme D'Or winner Chen Kaige, Wang Chao and Zhang Jiarui.
