• Russian Olympic Committee ice dancer Kamila Valieva finished fourth in the Women's Single Free Skate, which has been the center of global attention since it emerged Valieva failed an out-of-competition drug test in 2021. 

• Canada wins Women's Ice Hockey gold, beating the U.S. 3-2 in a repeat fixture from the 2018 final in Pyeongchang. The Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin said it was "redemption" after losing to the U.S. four years ago. 

• Ski favorite Mikaela Shiffrin has crashed out again. The U.S. world champion alpine skier failed to finish the Combined Event, the third event she has crashed out of at Beijing 2022. "It feels like there's not a whole lot to learn besides just trying to keep focusing on good skiing. I don't know what the phrase is - take it on the chin," she said.

• There was unease at the result of the Women's Ski Cross "Big Final" after Switzerland's Fanny Smith was relegated from third when she was judged to have moved illegally to block  Germany's Daniela Maier from overtaking on the run to the finish. Analysts said Maier was also upset and disagreed with the ruling. 

• Chinese snowboarding star Eileen Gu is aiming for a third medal of the Games in the Women's Halfpipe. She revealed her secret weapon has been the calming influence of her mother. "We've become more like friends and in that sense she understands the way my brain works extremely well and she knows what to say in the right moments," she said. And the family affair continued at the Halfpipe event, when Gu's grandmother was able to watch Eileen perform in person for the first time. 

• Japan's Miho Takagi has won three long-track Speed Skating silver medals at Beijing 2022, and today she added a gold to her tally with the 1,000 meters event. She now has seven Olympic medals, making Takagi Japan's most medalled female athlete.
