The World Health Organization says that in 2019 an estimated 17.9 million people died from cardiovascular diseases - a figure that amounts to 32% of all deaths.  The majority were due to heart attacks and strokes. As people are now living longer, often with multiple diseases, this will become more common. Razor's Emma Keeling talks to scientists at a Canadian company called Novoheart who have developed mini-hearts made from pluripotent stem cells, which will help to reduce the cost and length of testing vital heart medicines and therapies . She also delves deeper into their work in developing gene therapies for heart disease, which targets mutations at their source.
