· Low-cost airline Ryanair's losses narrowed during its first half compared with the same time last year – an increase in revenue caused by easing restrictions in Europe and higher passenger traffic. 

The company reported a net loss of $55 million for the six months to the end of September, a decrease compared with its loss of $475 million after taxes during the same time last year.

· Berlin's Brandenburg Airport is calling for an injection of cash to avoid bankruptcy. The hub's opening was delayed by eight years because of technical difficulties and corruption allegations. And it just opened last year when international travel ground to a halt because of the pandemic.

According to the CEO of the airport's operator, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg Gmbh, the company has enough liquidity to trade until the first quarter of 2022.

· More than 5 million people have died globally because of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University. The death toll is roughly the size of the combined population of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

· Vax is the Oxford English dictionary's word of the year. Until 2021, the word was relatively obscure, but it has since jumped because of its derivatives, such as vax cards and getting vaxxed.

· G20 leaders have pledged to work together to recognize vaccines deemed safe by the World Health Organization (WHO) after Russia's President Vladimir Putin complained about the lack of international approval for his country's Sputnik V vaccine.

· G20 leaders have also agreed to help the WHO's goal of vaccinating 40 percent of the global population by the end of 2021 and then 70 percent of that population by the middle of 2022.

· Spain will donate 20 million doses to developing nations – taking its overall pledge to 50 million jabs. It will donate 30 million of those by the end of this year and then another 20 million by the end of March 2022.

· The number of cases in France has jumped by 25 percent compared with a week ago, with 6,329 new cases reported on Sunday.
