The German Mustache and Beard Championships 2021 kicked off in Eging am See, lower Bavaria, with100 men sporting elaborate beards and mustaches competing to discover who has the best whiskers. 

Seven jurors, all trained barbers, chose the best beard assessing the contestants' presentability, hair density, and length. 

"Beard care is actually the most important thing," stated Christian Feicht, the East Bavarian Beard and Mustache Club president, reported DPA International.

The Beard Olympics was open to all, but those vying for the German championship needed to be residents or members of a club.

Feicht described the bearded rivals as having a "certain ambition and seriousness" but stressed that the contest was friendly overall.
