Camera catches wild animal species
Infrared cameras have captured footage of seven species of rare wild animals under state protection in northwest China's Qinghai province, including precious shots of the Alpine musk deer and Chinese mountain cat.

Huawei revenue plunges
Chinese tech giant Huawei's revenue plunged 29 percent in the first half of 2021, according to the company's earnings report released Friday.
Huawei is at the center of an intense U.S.-China trade and tech rivalry after the government of former President Donald Trump labeled it a security risk.
The U.S. has provided no evidence of spying but has barred Huawei from acquiring technologies crucial to its operations such as microchips and cut it off from using Google's Android operating system.

Dangerous winds in southern China
Witnesses captured dramatic footage of a powerful wind storm that hit southern China this week, blowing away small structures and sending people running for cover.
The footage was shot in Liuzhou in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and shows a security booth being blown over and an inflatable castle sent flying by a gust of wind.
Footage captured by eyewitnesses in Luzhou showed a length of fencing being buffeted and objects flying.
China tourism hit hard by Delta variant
China's summer tourism has taken a big hit as local authorities ask people to avoid inter-provincial traveling. Following the latest wave of COVID-19 cases, the government has imposed restrictions on travel and shut down tourist spots in cities with medium- and high-risk areas.
Migrating elephants head home
A herd of 14 wild Asian elephants wandering through southwest China's Yunnan Province headed closer to its original habitat on Sunday, as the animals safely crossed the Yuanjiang River, local authorities said.
The herd had crossed the body of water near China's National Highway 213 (G213) and arrived on the south bank by 8:08 p.m. on August 8.

Dragon boat racing in Olympics
A dragon boat race was held as an Olympics demonstration sport at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics before the opening of the final canoe race.
The 10-minute showcase was held between the canoe races at the Sea Forest Waterway from August 2 to 7, starting the procedure to bid for its listing as an Olympic sport.

Joint China-Russia military drills
A joint exercise between China and Russia, code-named ZAPAD/INTERACTION-2021, kicked off in Qingtongxia in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Overzealous fan culture
Chinese authorities have called for tougher measures to rectify distorted fan culture and build healthy and rational online fandom in China.
The call came after the recent detention of Kris Wu, a 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian pop star, in Beijing for suspected rape.
The arrest set off a social media storm, with netizens taking different sides. While thousands of netizens took to Twitter-like platform Weibo to demand an impartial inquiry and justified punishment, some die-hard fans of the accused went as far as expressing their wish of visiting him in jail.

Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe has opened the second season of its highly popular resident show "Era – Intersection of Time."

Chinese students fight U.S. visa restrictions
Chinese students, researchers and families are scrambling to deal with U.S. visa restrictions that continue Trump-era policies.
In May 2020, the White House announced that certain Chinese graduate students and researchers associated with entities in China that implement or support China's military-civil fusion strategy would be prevented from entering the U.S. under the F or J non-immigrant visa. An analysis report by the Center for Security and Emerging Technology found that the proclamation so far may have affected 3,000 to 5,000 Chinese students.
