· Britain's Tom Daley – who became a national star in 2008 when he represented his country aged just 14 at the Beijing Olympics – has finally got Olympic Gold at his fourth attempt. Together with Matty Lee, the pair won gold in the men's 10-meter synchronized diving. The duo sealed their victory with a brilliant final dive and received one perfect 10 from the judges.
· Nora Gjakova won Kosovo's second gold medal, in the women's 57 kg Judo, with victory over France's Sarah Leonie Cysique. For the men’s 73 kg category, Japan's Judo superstar Shohei Ono won gold after an epic lightweight final against Georgia's Lasha Shavdatuashvili.
· U.S. shooter Amber English set an Olympic record to defeat reigning women's skeet champion Diana Bacosi of Italy. Fellow countryman Vincent Hancock became the first skeet shooter to win three Olympic gold medals.
· Japan's Momiji Nishiya has won the first ever Olympic skateboard competition for women. The 13-year-old gave the host nation a sweep of golds in the street sport a day after fellow Japanese Yuto Horigome won the men’s event.
· Japan beat China at mixed doubles for table tennis on Monday. It's a sport in which China's dominance has been so strong that the Chinese team has often proved unbeatable – winning all four gold medals at the 2016 Rio Games in Brazil.
· Hidilyn Diaz became the first Olympic gold medalist from the Philippines after winning the women's 55 kg weightlifting category. China's Liao Qiuyun took gold and Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan took bronze.
· Cheung Ka Long of China's Hong Kong won the second Olympic gold for the Special Administrative region in its history by beating defending champion Daniele Garozzo in the men's foil fencing final. Hong Kong's only previous Olympic win was gold for Lee Lai Shan in women's windsurfing in 1996.
