Europe's first underwater museum is welcoming visitors underneath the Aegean Sea. 

The museum opened in 2020 but the site has been relatively untouched due to COVID-19. Now people are beginning to flock to the archaeological site.

Situated beneath the sea at Peristera, a rocky island off the bigger land of Alonissos, visitors of the museum will see 2,500-year-old wine pots that mark the site of an ancient shipwreck.

Petros Vafinis, the Mayor of Alonissos said, "It is the first underwater museum that can be visited. It is of such historic value that I believe this can't be found anywhere else in the world, nowhere that is accessible to this extent."

Divers can pay $110 a dive, around 50 percent more than the cost of a regular recreational scuba, for a guided tour of the ruins.

And there has been a positive response to the new museum from those who have been lucky enough to visit.

"The experience was great. My expectations were already high from the briefing. It fulfilled everything, all my expectations," said George Giasemidis, a Data scientist from Greece.
