At least 10 people have been killed in a bus crash on a major Croatian highway. Another 44 have been hurt, including eight that were described as seriously injured.
The bus, which was on a regular route from Germany to Pristina in Kosovo, reportedly slid off the road near the Serbian border as it was travelling south.
The crash occured at 6 a.m. local time near the town of Slavonski Brod. The region's prosecutor told Index news portal in Croatia the driver had admitted falling asleep at the wheel and has been arrested.

Emergency services were quickly on scene, and traffic was held up while a crane was used to move the bus.
Local police chief Franjo Galic described the crash as "one of the worst accidents I have ever seen."
Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic tweeted a message of condolence. "We hope the injured will recover," he said.
