SUNDAY'S RESULTS

Italy 1-0 Wales

Italy topped the group after a third straight win, thanks to a first-half goal from Matteo Pessina over 10-man Wales. Wales also qualified for the Euro 2020 last 16 as runners-up in Group A, despite defeat in Rome. But the team will be without Ethan Ampadu for the next round, who was shown a straight red card in the 55th minute for stamping on Federico Bernardeschi.

Italy will play the runner-up from Group C next, with Wales facing the team that comes second in Group B.

Switzerland 3-1 Turkey

Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice in Baku for Switzerland and the team could still progress to the last 16 after finishing level with Wales on four points. Despite the victory, which included a goal from Haris Seferovic, the Swiss will have to wait on results in other groups to see if the country will qualify for the next round as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Switzerland had 23 attempts but Turkey scored an all-important goal through Irfan Kahveci in the second half to ensure the Swiss team's goal difference did not surpass Wales's.
