More than 700 missing or abducted children rescued. The Ministry of Public Security also said it has arrested 86 suspects since the start of 2021. Some of the children had been separated from their families for more than 30 years.

Remote sensing satellites launched. The 369th Long March rocket mission took the satellites into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Friday morning.

They'll do electromagnetic environment detection and related tests. The rocket also took up satellites to collect data serving China's Internet of Things (IoT), a giant network connecting devices and data.

Box office record. Chinese cinemas took 1.67 billion yuan ($257.65 million) and had 44.11 million views during the five-day May Day holiday, according to the China Film Administration. It was the highest in the holiday's box office history but lower than the industry's expectation.

New TikTok CEO.  Eight months after former TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer resigned, the short video company announced Chew Shou Zi from Singapore as its new permanent leader.

The company said that Chew will take up the dual role as CEO of TikTok and CFO of its parent company. The move was regarded as a signal that the company would strengthen its roots in Asia.

Domestic tourism rises. Chinese people made more than 230 million trips during the five-day Labor Day holiday, from Saturday to Wednesday, posting a year-on-year increase of 119.7 percent according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday.

May 4th medals. A group from Sinovac Life Sciences were among 30 individuals and 14 groups and organizations awarded May 4th Medals to celebrate their great contributions to the country. Sinovac is known for developing and manufacturing one of China's COVID-19 vaccines.

The medal commemorates the patriotic May 4th Movement launched in 1919 by young Chinese students and intellectuals to fight imperialism and feudalism. The medal has been bestowed on exceptional individuals and entities since 1997 with the aim of inspiring the country's youth.

Palace museum ceramics gallery reopens. The Ceramics Gallery at Beijing's iconic Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, reopened to the public last Saturday after two years of preparation. Over 1,000 artifacts are on display, showcasing the history of Chinese ceramics that spans some 8,000 years.

Mobile apps rapped for breaching privacy regulations. Thirty-three mobile applications have violated regulations, with most of them collecting personal information irrelevant to their services, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said. 

Among the list were navigation apps operated by China's big tech companies including Baidu and Tencent; keyboard apps by Sogou, iFLYTEK and Baidu; and an instant messaging app. They were given ten days to make corrections or face fines.

Ancient pagoda leaning. Conservation experts are trying to figure out how to deal with a tilt in the world's oldest and tallest wooden structure. The Sakyamuni Pagoda of the Fogong Temple, also known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda in China's Shanxi Province, is almost 1,000-year-old. It's around 66 meters high, equal to a 23-story building today. Over the past nine centuries, it has survived several earthquakes and even artillery attacks.
