In 2014, following a tricky divorce, Morag Dunbar from Glasgow in Scotland turned to food for comfort, and her weight spiraled to 178 kilos.

When her weight issues meant she couldn't even manage to complete nine holes of her beloved golf, she realized something had to change. So, when the UK's National Health Service wouldn't pay for it, she funded gastric sleeve surgery for herself.

And just in time – as she tells Stephen Cole: "The Professor that operated on me told me I would have been dead within two years if I hadn't addressed my weight."

Following the surgery, Morag lost 44 kilos.

But that wasn't enough. When lockdown came early in 2020 she decided to take up running and mountain climbing – and within eight moths had lost another 50 kilos.

"Exercise became my anti-depressant." She says: "I feel more confident and get compliments all the time."

But she says not enough is done to help the morbidly obese: "Food is an addiction, but unlike any other addiction, like drinking or gambling, you can't cut it out of your life. You need it. There are people out there who can help you, but you have to find them, and you have to want to help yourself. It has to come from within."
