From Fortnite to Call of Duty, video games have grown to become cultural juggernaut, making up the largest sector in the entertainment industry.
Globally, there are around 2.5 billion players, with China making up 25 percent of gamers. And now, games are individually making the same amount of money as Hollywood blockbusters.
Last year Fortnite made $1.8 billion. And Modern Warfare, the latest in the Call of Duty franchise, made about the same as the highest grossing movie of all time, Avengers: Endgame.
The pandemic has only accelerated video games' cultural footprint. Before COVID-19, Twitch, a streaming service, had 15 million daily viewers. In March, that number grew to 22.7 million daily viewers.
