Liu Xiaoming, China's ambassador to the UK, delivered a rousing speech hailing the country's transformation into a major economic power on the 71st anniversary of the foundation of the People's Republic.
Liu led the celebrations, which were held online as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and took the chance to note the achievements the country has made over the past decades.
He said: "Since new China was born 71 years ago, tremendous changes have taken place in the country. Today, China has taken on a new look under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, thanks to the painstaking efforts of the Chinese people."
Liu then reeled off China's proudest achievements, labeling the speed of change as a "miracle" before hailing its continued economic growth.
"China has made great leaps, from gaining independence to becoming prosperous and growing strong and creating a miracle in the history of human development.
