A handyman in Hungary has proved you can make your dreams come true, even in a pandemic.

Marton Kiss was laid off from his job at tourism operator Viking in May and it is unclear when or if he might be able to return.

So he has used the time to do something he says he always dreamed of but never got around to – building a caravan to sell waffles and ice cream.

The 25-year-old explains how he made it happen: "I had time to talk to the carpenters, the electricians and build the whole house from the beginning. It was a very, very long process, but at least I wasn't bored during that time."

Although he had some previous training in dessert-making, Kiss turned to an unlikely but familiar source for this latest venture: YouTube.

And there was some valuable trial and error while he perfected his recipes. "You can't imagine how many ice creams I put into the trash," he laughs.

"My plan for the future is to go to little festivals, even though the pandemic is going on, in Hungary the rule is that you cannot make a festival bigger than 500 people, but there are small festivals going on around the country - sweets festivals, horse-riding festivals, all kinds of stuff, and my plan is go out and sell the ice cream for the Hungarians."

The latest jobless figures show almost five percent of people are now out of work in Hungary.

But Kiss is daring to defy the downturn with a large scoop of entrepreneurship and a sprinkle of drive.
