Art students hold degree show... on Mars

Updated 2020.06.17 01:37 GMT+8

Unfazed by lockdown measures, student artists from Liverpool John Moores University have held a virtual end-of-course showcase... on Mars.

In the "multiverse" experience, visitors to the degree show's website can head to the Red Planet and take in the Gale crater thanks to 3D scans from NASA.

On the surface of Mars are objects that people can click on to see an individual student's work. The visitor is taken back to the student's gallery on Earth, where they can see the artwork they have prepared.

People can continue to have a virtual look around the gallery or head back to Mars and click on another object.

Its success has been out of this world, with 220,000 hits on the show's first weekend. Normally, the university would expect 1,000 visitors to come in person to see the show each year.
