Grigore Lup's shoe-making business has been hit by the lockdown, but one niche area has started to pick up – social-distancing footwear.

The idea came to him when he saw people were not sticking to the guidelines. "Nobody respected social distancing and I thought, I will make three pairs of these shoes, I will put them on the internet and call them social distancing shoes to somehow draw attention, or to make them come across as a joke," he says.

Lup's light-hearted creation was quickly spotted by local media in Romania.

"I was very surprised that I had caught so much attention. And then I started receiving orders. I got orders from Canada, I got orders from England, I got orders from Romania," he adds.

The shoes need up to a meter of leather and take two days to make. They cost 103 euros ($116) a pair.
