With social distancing measures brought in across Europe during the COVID-19 lockdown, it can be tough to find something to do outside your house.

Some countries across the continent have come up with an innovative way for people to enjoy a movie night out, while obeying restrictions, with the introduction of drive-in cinemas.

One of these cinemas has been set up at the currently deserted Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania. Visitors get to watch a best-selling movie, while enjoying the view across the airport.

Hundreds have flocked to the events, organized by the Vilnius Film Festival as cars maintain a two-meter distance, with a maximum of two people per vehicle allowed.

Algirdas Ramaska, CEO of the Vilnius Film Festival, said: "Last year, we were screening the films in a freshly closed jail in Vilnius, and now we are in an airport. And this is the way, when people can safely watch the films, and at the same time to feel a little bit of a sense of the excitement you get when you travel."

Flights are due to resume at Vilnius from 10 May, but organizers of the event still are hopeful the cinema will be able to operate until the end of the month, as air traffic will still be at a very low level.

Similar cinemas have been set up across Germany and have had a similar response, with many grateful for the chance to enjoy a night out while at very low risk of catching or spreading the virus.

Kristijonas, a visitor at the Vilnius cinema, echoed the thoughts of many: "It is fun to get out of the house when in quarantine, at least with a car. And to experience some entertainment."
