A northern Californian town has managed to fund and organize COVID-19 testing for all the town's residents.
Entrepreneur Jyri Engestrom was a part of a team of locals who, along with support from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), managed to test the 1,600-plus residents of Bolinas in just four days.
"We found basically every single component that was required to test the entire town in a matter of days, a couple of weeks, and assemble them together with this incredible surge of volunteers," Engestrom explained to CGTN Europe's Razor program.
Before the testing took place, there were no confirmed COVID-19 cases in town, but many residents are older than 60 and at higher risk from contracting it.
The testing in Bolinas was the first of a two-part study, in which UCSF researchers will examine the spread of the disease in both rural and urban areas. Researchers have chosen the Mission District, an inner city neighborhood in San Francisco, for the second location.
