Economic loss caused by COVID-19 underestimated in sports industry

The pandemic may reveal major flaws in the current sporting system. The Agenda's Stephen Cole asks if now is an opportunity to reassess the finance and shift the focus back on what the fans want.

Simon Chadwick is a professor at the Centre for the Eurasian Sport Industry and works in Paris and China. Chadwick says that based on the business in China, Europe would be too optimistic to anticipate sports resuming in the coming weeks.

Chadwick says the impact of COVID-19 on global sport has been "incalculable" and adds how many levels in the game are being forgotten about by those predicting the economic consequences, including merchandisers and equipment suppliers.
