A plane headed for Iceland, carrying 18 tonnes of medical supplies from China to help with the fight against COVID-19 took a detour to draw a heart over its capital, Reykjavik.

The Icelandair flight returning from Shanghai on Sunday formed the shape before continuing its journey to Keflavík International Airport.

Ásdís Ýr Pétursdóttir, a spokesperson for Icelandair, said that it was intended to honor Iceland's healthcare workers.

The plane marks the last of three flights from China, where they have carried over a total 50 tonnes of medical supplies, including masks and other protective equipment.

As of Monday, Iceland's confirmed cases of COVID-19 total 1,771.
