Gerard Lyons, a leading voice on the global economy and the former chief economic adviser to Boris Johnson while he was Mayor of London, discusses the various methods that countries could employ to end their respective COVID-19 lockdowns.

Highlighting the relationship between the medical and the economic measures in response to the new coronavirus, Lyons stresses the importance of moving from lockdown to regular economic life in a gradual manner. When the number of new infections is at half the number of the peak, he suggests unlocking the economy in a progressive "traffic light" fashion – red, amber, and then green.

However, for Lyons, what will be key is the correlation between government regulations around how their citizens should behave at each stage and how people will actually act.
