The UK's annual budget may not get delivered on schedule following the surprise resignation of finance minister Sajid Javid, according to Dr Lee Jones of Queen Mary University in London.
Javid shocked Westminster by quitting as chancellor in the middle of Boris Johnson's cabinet reshuffle on Friday when the Prime Minister insisted he sack his advisors and have a joint team with the Prime Minister's office.
Javid presumably resigned because he was not cooperating in drafting a budget that supported the government's agenda, says Dr Jones.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson's attempt to lift the economy, especially in newly Conservative seats in the north of England, was a priority in the party's general election manifesto.
Rishi Sunak, who replaced Sajid Javid, may need more time to get things in order.
Meanwhile, Sunak is on record as saying "we don't need a trade deal with European Union, "
Future talks with the EU are looming, although the Prime Minister may have a little bit of time to get his domestic agenda going before he needs to focus on that.
