A fire broke out in a hotel next to the sea in Eastbourne, on the south coast of England, causing six people to be treated for minor injuries. Authorities say that the fire started in the basement of the Claremont Hotel around 08:50 GMT. The building, comprising the Burlington Hotel and the Claremont Hotel, was built between 1851 and 1855. In 1949 it was given a Grade II listing - indicating a particularly important building with special architectural and historical interest.

One person was taken to the hospital after experiencing breathing problems. The rest of the residents were safely evacuated. Twelve fire engines were called to the scene of the fire that destroyed the roof of the hotel.
