In the UK, the latest figures suggest 5 million people are prescribed opioids every year and around half a million are now addicted to them. Matt Hancock, the UK's health secretary, has described those numbers as "truly shocking." But how do people become addicted? CGTN Europe's The Agenda program spoke to Nicki Hari, a former prescription opioids addict, who is now admissions coordinator at UK addiction treatment centres (UKAT), to hear how her addiction began.
