An armed man was shot and arrested by police in Oslo, Tuesday, after the assailant stole an ambulance and mowed down several pedestrians in the Norwegian capital. At least two people were injured.

The suspect hit an elderly couple and a woman with a stroller before crashing the ambulance into a house wall. The woman and her child are now being treated at a local hospital.

A police car rammed into the back of the vehicle as it crashed. Officers then opened fire on the man as he tried to escape, shooting the assailant before detaining him. According to the authorities, he is not in a critical condition.

Anders Bayer, a spokesman for Oslo University Hospital, told Norwegian news agency NTB that three employees were in the vehicle when it was stolen. They were unharmed during the incident. 

Police are now looking for a woman "who looks drunk" in connection with the incident.
