Huawei's 10th Global Mobile Broadband Forum hosted in collaboration with industry partners GSMA and GTI got underway in Zurich on Tuesday.
The two-day event, attended by both operators and markets, will seek to focus on future technologies, including 5G, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality and robotics.
According to Huawei, 5G networks are witnessing large-scale commercial deployment, much faster than 4G.
As of now, a total of 40 commercial 5G networks have been launched in more than 20 markets. Another 60 are expected by the end of 2019.
Huawei Deputy Chairman Ken Hu referred to spectrum resources, specifically the cost and availability of spectrum as one of the major challenges faced by mobile network carriers.

He urged for favorable policies for faster adoption of 5G.
In his keynote speech Hu said: "We still have some challenges in terms of vertical industry knowledge, use cases, and business case development.
"So, we need to innovate together. If we can have an open mind, work together with industry partners to identify real problems, and explore what works and what doesn't, that will make it easier for us to unleash the power of 5G."
