Chinatown fire: London firefighters battle restaurant blaze

Firefighters spent three hours on Sunday tackling a blaze that started in a restaurant in London's Chinatown.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the first and second floors, as well as the roof of a terrace building on Gerrard Street in the capital was ablaze.

Two people were led to safety via an internal staircase. No injuries from the blaze have been reported.

Twelve fire engines and 80 firefighters were called to the scene.

Tom George, LFB's deputy commissioner and director of operations, said on Twitter: "Crews have worked really hard at the 12-pump fire in Chinatown in very challenging circumstances, to prevent the fire from spreading."

LFB was called at 8:39 GMT on Sunday and it said the fire was under control by 11:28.

Firefighters will remain on the scene damping the area throughout the afternoon

Investigations are under way to find out what caused the fire.
